Daniel Avery
Senior Vice President of Policy, Real Estate Board of New York
Daniel Avery is the Director of Policy at the Real Estate Board of New York. His work focuses on City and State legislation, sustainability, building codes and systems, and solving member issues with city agencies, among other things. He also runs several committees, including REBNY’s Residential Management Council.
Prior to that, Daniel was the Director of Governmental and Legislative Affairs at The Building Owners and Managers Association of Greater New York.
Daniel spent two separate three-year stints at the New York City Council, where he staffed the Committees on Environmental Protection and Sanitation and, following Superstorm Sandy, the Committee on Resiliency. He also undertook a wide range of issues for the Speaker’s Office under Speaker Chris Quinn.
In between his two tenures at the Council, Daniel ran the Sustainability Program at the New York Botanical Garden. Prior to his time at the Council, Daniel worked in the Mayor’s Office of Environmental Coordination.
Daniel serves on the Board of the New York Energy Consumer Council and chairs their Regulatory Subcommittee. He has a BA from Columbia University and a Masters Degree from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.
